Young children are naturally curious. Their curiosity drives them to try new things and brings excitement to life. It helps them become more observant and encourages them to explore and figure things out. Developing curiosity fosters a child’s ability to continually grow, learn, and question the world around them.

Here are a few ideas to support curiosity in young children:

  • Encourage opportunities to explore.

  • Embrace their questions: Respond with phrases like, "That's a great question. Let's find out together."

  • Ask open-ended questions and spark curiosity: Use prompts such as, "I wonder..."

  • Allow for problem-solving: Try questions like, "What do you think will happen if...?"

  • Reflect on experiences together: Ask, "What surprised you?"

  • Give them time: Avoid overscheduling. Unstructured play provides space for deep discovery and wonder.

  • Silly Storytime: Take turns telling silly stories to encourage language development, creativity, and imagination.
